FILM RECOMMENDATIONS: ROMANCE (2005-17)

Image
Summit Entertainment, Lionsgate Films Age Certificate: 12A IMDb: 8/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 91/100 Plot Sebastian and Mia are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts, they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart. Review The highlight of the film is the colour palette of the film and how it matches the aesthetics but also the tone. The plot is typical; 2 people who want to develop a relationship but also strive in their careers. What makes the story good? The tone. Accompanied by music, you can see the dedication Stone and Gosling put in their acting to make their relationship feel real and interesting. The ending of the film was unconventional and the last 10 minutes is the reason for making the whole film emotional. My rating: 8.5/10 British Film Institute (BFI) Age Certificate:  12A IM...

FILM RECOMMENDATIONS: CLASSICS (1971-95)

Universal Pictures Age Certificate:   15 IMDb: 7.9/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 89/100 Plot Five high school students, all with different mindsets, face detainment in their school library on a Saturday morning. As time passes by, their egos fade and they become close buddies. Review Another favourite single-day structured narrative; just like 'American Graffiti' (1973), 'Superbad' (2007) and 'Booksmart' (2019), the film presents realism and allows the audience to empathise with the characters. In a short time, the characters manage to change their attitude and how they perceive one another. In any other film, it would be too quick of a character development that you won't care for the characters, however, for a single-day narrative, you feel like you have spent too much time with the characters that you feel like you know them on a personal level. My only criticism would be the stereotypical 'male gaze' scenes that are not too hard to miss. ...

FILM RECOMMENDATIONS: RECENT RELEASES (2017-18)

Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Age Certificate: 12A IMDb: 7.9/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 92/100 Plot Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor's quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilisation. Review The third film in the trilogy; director, Taika Waititi, takes a turn on the film as he changes the tone to be less "dark" as shown in the first two films and more colourful (as seen by the poster), fun and a more comedic even for a Marvel film. In my opinion, though Thor is the lead character, it's Loki, played by Hiddleston, who always steals the show. Korg was also another scene stealer (portrayed by Waititi). My rating: 8.5/10 TSG Entertainment, Fox Searchlight Pictures Age Certi...

WORLD OF FILMS

Image
Growing up, I used to unintentionally analyse films; discussing the practical and digital effects with anyone in the room as well as watching behind the scene videos of my favourite films. The constant need to let my brothers know how certain scenes were shot every time we watch a film and then researching further into the production led to my passion in films studies. At the of 3, my uncle sent us 80's and 90's films on VHS... some of what I remember were 'Terminator', 'Star Wars' and even an old TV show from the 60's called 'Captain Scarlet'. It was only until I was 15 (4 years ago) when I knew I wanted to pursue a career in media well at least study it. Studying media for A-Levels got me to review films (specifically horror films) and make a blog about the pre/post production of my own short film which gave me the idea to start a new blog- writing my own reviews on films I have already watched (anything from cult classics to recent releases). ****...
