'JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION' (2022) REVIEW

Image
Critics have said the franchise has run its course, giving the latest addition to the series a low score of 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. These days, there seems to be a big difference between the critics score and the audience score for 'Jurassic World: Dominion'. I seem to side with the general public, giving the film a high score of 77 out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes. After the release of the sequel to 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' (2018), I was excited to see this film like how I was excited to see 'Fallen Kingdom' after the first film. After the endings, my immediate thought would always be "now I have to wait another 4 years to watch the next one". I only forgive the long wait so they can focus on making the dinosaurs look visually appealing and work on a good plot that is not rushed just to generate money like the 'Star Wars' sequel trilogy. Though many people have had enough with the franchise, my love for...

FILM RECOMMENDATIONS: SUPERHERO (1978-2018)

Image
Warner Bros. Pictures Age Certificate: 12 IMDb: 7.5/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 71/100 Plot The Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker. Review One of the best superhero films of the decade; when it was first announced that Michael Keaton will play the dark crusader, the audience were not convinced that a comedian could portray a dark vigilante such as Batman. Yet, Keaton steps in the role of Batman, regardless of the audience's initial response to him, and delivers one of the best Batman performances in film history. But what gave the film its positive reviews was Jack Nicholson who took on the role of the iconic villain, the Joker. Nicholson is considered one the best actors of our generation, coming from the film 'The Shining (1980)', it was already evident that Nicholson was fit to play another villain such as the Joker. This film was the reason why I lo...

'THE MARTIAN' (2015) Dir. RIDLEY SCOTT

Image
TSG Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Age Certificate:  12 IMDb:   8/10 Rotten Tomatoes:   91/100 Plot When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney, presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager number of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilise his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission. Trailer Full of wit and comedy behind the reality that is a rescue mission to get back an astronaut from Mars. Matt Damon portrays botanist and astronaut, Mark Watney but it wasn't just his astounding performance that shined through-out but Damon's natural charm and humour that made his character memorable. In addition, as an audience member, you can appreciate the work that went into the film-making; from the research into th...

'MOWGLI: LEGEND OF THE JUNGLE' (2018) Dir. ANDY SERKIS

Image
Warner Bros. Pictures, Netflix Age Certificate: 12A IMDb: 6.5/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 53/100 Plot Human child Mowgli is raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often-harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own, but the fearsome tiger Shere Khan doesn't take a liking to him. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins. Trailer A darker take on the beloved children's book; Serkis demonstrates adventure and fantasy through the use of motion capture performance. This movie cannot be compared to Jon Favreau's 'The Jungle Book' (2016). Disney manages to capture the beauty of the jungle in their adaptation whereas if we were to really appreciate the story of the well-known book, Serkis' adaptation is the film for you. Whilst Disney did well hiding the re...

WORLD OF FILMS

Image
Growing up, I used to unintentionally analyse films; discussing the practical and digital effects with anyone in the room as well as watching behind the scene videos of my favourite films. The constant need to let my brothers know how certain scenes were shot every time we watch a film and then researching further into the production led to my passion in films studies. At the of 3, my uncle sent us 80's and 90's films on VHS... some of what I remember were 'Terminator', 'Star Wars' and even an old TV show from the 60's called 'Captain Scarlet'. It was only until I was 15 (4 years ago) when I knew I wanted to pursue a career in media well at least study it. Studying media for A-Levels got me to review films (specifically horror films) and make a blog about the pre/post production of my own short film which gave me the idea to start a new blog- writing my own reviews on films I have already watched (anything from cult classics to recent releases). ****...
