'DEADPOOL 2' (2018) REVIEW

In my opinion, the first film was really good but I think I went in to the movie theatre without knowing much about Deadpool or Ryan Reynolds. I was expecting something like the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). I knew that he was a comedic character and an anti-hero but I was still expecting a typical Marvel film. I did find it funny but there were many references and funny moments I did not understand when I first watched it because they were mainly about Green Lantern and the 2009's Deadpool which I did not know much about like the negative reviews it received so the jokes about Ryan's previous characters were not as humorous to me as they were to other people. However, I did go in to the sequel knowing everything I need to know about Deadpool and the film was hilarious.

The film exceeded my expectations. It was hilarious from beginning till end. There were references to the 80's so you might want to know a few things about the 80's in terms of music and films. Also, a variety of references to Josh Brolin's character - Thanos is mentioned once and also the Goonies. Again, the jokes he makes are very much about characters the actors played in other movies. It would help to be a film buff.

For Josh, Deadpool references his well-known characters. Deadpool continues making his jokes about Green Lantern and 2009's Deadpool which were twice as funny in this film than in the first film.

A few of my favourite characters were of course Peter, when he showed up in the trailer - it was a given that he'd steal the show but I also loved Dopinder. I knew that whenever he showed up, he would say or do something funny. If you haven't watched it, anticipate his scenes! He's honestly the best thing in this sequel.

The film has done well commercially and critically, definitely better than the first film. I was excited about this film from when the first teaser came out. The marketing aspect of the film was great, it is why I was interested in Deadpool 2 in the first place. From the teaser trailers to the film posters and adverts, they were unique and hilarious which captured my attention. The marketing team including Ryan Reynolds delivers a great advertisement for the film as they present exactly what the film will be about and also interact with the audience through the hilarious videos and social media.

The marketing such as the videos and images the studio released were not completely related to the actual film but funny references to the 80's. It is new and a different technique of advertising compared to other superhero films and every other film in film history.

On a budget of $110 million, the film brings an action-packed adventure with stunning VFX. I loved the 2nd act when there was an appearance from a certain X-Men character (spoilers). I say this because it is necessary for a large number of special effects to be used during the 2nd act of the film.

Another funny moment was when Deadpool went back to the school to recruit "some" of the X-Men only to ask again where everyone is. Without any spoilers, I think it was the best moment in the film because it was unpredictable.

The next film in the franchise is going to be a X-Force spin off so I'm excited for that as we had a glimpse of the "founding" members in the trailer. I was most excited about Peter because he was just a random guy who saw the ad and wanted to join. He is so relatable (yet so sad) but just like Deadpool, you want nothing bad happening to him. As for the other characters, I wanted to see more of them because they do have cool powers... well some do... but it was funny how their characters turned out in the end so it makes up for their less screen time.

It is comedic. I'm sure I have laughed at least once every 2 minutes of the film.

IMDb rating: 8/10
My rating: 8.5/10

I have one more review post to do (Solo: A Star Wars Story) until I can post any further reviews and posts. I also have recently watched 'Incredibles 2' so I will write a short review on that. ✍

It's currently 34°c 🌞 here in London, the hottest it has ever been this summer and I don't know how I'm writing these reviews in this heat. 💀
