'SHERLOCK GNOMES' (2018) REVIEW
With the first film 'Gnomeo and Juliet' doing well at the box office and receiving mixed reviews, the sequel does not succeed nor does it do well commercially and critically. It underperformed at the box office and received negative reviews.
Though my sister enjoyed this film due to its tone and the 'humour' it provides, the film lacks many things. I thought the humour was 'okay'. I only laughed a few times but those moments are forgettable. The only memorable scene was the nepotism joke in the beginning.
Comedy is an important genre to present in this film to engage children but this film failed to do so. However, the action aspect of the film managed to keep the audience engaged.
Other aspects the film lacked was the storytelling which is the main part of any film. The narrative was very generic and predictable but there were moments which allows the audience think "I did not see that coming!" The film tends to explain a lot of scenes which was unnecessary because it would mean that you, as a filmmaker, did not tell the story properly for the audience to be able to understand what happened, especially the children who are the target audience. It is important to leave some ambiguity as well for the audience to make decisions on their own and for children to creatively think and expand their imagination.
Again, I was a bit disappointed with the comedy aspect and the narrative. I think children would still enjoy the film due to its tone and action. Do not go in to watch it thinking "it has well known actors" because though the actors are very talented, this film was just not their best. But then again, I am not the target audience, it could still be a good film for the kids.

This is was a short review since I didn't have much to say about the film. 😕
I've finished writing a review for 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' but I will post that after I'm posting a few more reviews that I have already done and the film recommendations. I might do that in between review posts... just maybe. 🎬
