TOP 10 FAVOURITE K-POP MUSIC VIDEOS (SMTOWN, DAY6, DREAMCATCHER ETC.)

My top 10 favourite KPOP music videos. A lot will be from SM entertainment, I personally think they produce the best KPOP videos of all time. This is essentially, a list of my favourite groups as well... I don't think I invest myself in any other groups apart from the following, nor do I listen to any other group:

1. EXO - CALL ME BABY (2015)

Album: Exodus

This is the first music video that comes to mind when I think about my favourite songs and music videos. Even though it looked like it was filmed in a car park, I love the transitions and the way the production team effortlessly made every member look great. One of my favourite eras from EXO. Weirdly enough, I found out that there was CGI for a scene that you wouldn't think nor expect to have CGI but some of the set at the 0.50 mark was not real.

2. NCT U - THE 7TH SENSE (2016)

Album: The 7th Sense (Single)

I was excited for this music video as I was actually following SMRookies for a while before their debut so this was a long-awaited debut music video for me. The colour palette was the first thing that caught my attention. The classic block colours with members blending into the wall with their matching outfits, it really gives an RnB vibe and I think the director was the same for 'SIMON SAYS' music video by NCT 127; another favourite music video of mine.

3. RED VELVET - PSYCHO (2019)

Album: 'The ReVe Festival' Finale

Just like Taeyeon's music video for 'STAY', I love the consistent colour palette throughout the music video; the dark academia aesthetics, the matching outfits, and the dark tone of the video. They really started off 2020 with best music video and song of the year.

4. DREAMCATCHER - BOCA (2020)

Album: Dystopia: Lose Myself

For such an underrated group, they do produce the best music videos. Even though there's CGI going into the production of the video, the set designs are still stunning and beautiful. Again, just like Red Velvet's music video for 'PSYCHO' and any rock songs, the dark concept is what intrigued me. As the music video looks like it was set at night, neon light aesthetics fits very well.

5. STRAY KIDS - GOD'S MENU (2020)

Album: Go生

Stray Kids is probably the only group in this list that I do not go out of my way listening to their music. I don't actually know much about this group but I've heard some of their title track songs. All their songs have catchy beats and the hooks are always my favourite but the video production on this song was different and I don't know if it was the camera angles but the first scene of the kitchen gave me 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' vibes with Quicksilver. They also used the same camera technique for their next song 'BACK DOOR' which I've noticed since it's a common technique.

6. DAY6 - I SMILE (2017)

Album: Sunrise

I still consider this a rock song even though it's more pop than rock (pop rock). Quite different to majority of the K-ROCK scene and any rock music videos, this song is more light-hearted and the filter / aesthetics for the music video makes it one of my favourite music videos by them.

7. ATEEZ - ANSWER (2020)

Album: Treasure Epilogue: Action To Answer

The same reason why I like DAY6's 'I SMILE' music video, the aesthetics does it for me. For an underrated KPOP group as well, the video production on this song is stunning. The sets are unique and fits well with ATEEZ's concept.

8. NCT 127 - KICK IT (2020)

Album: NCT #127 Neo Zone

Matching outfits with the black, white, and yellow aesthetics; the concept was inspired by classic Chinese films accompanying futuristic city vibes. Taking in inspirations from traditional martial arts and stereotypes of Asian traditions and expressing their love for the culture.

9. DREAMCATCHER - YOU AND I (2018)

Album: Nightmare: Escape The Era

Just like all their music videos from their debut, they follow a narrative in their nightmare series. A beginning, middle and end of a story told through a dark concept music video accompanied by rock music, their trademark.

10. DAY6 - I WAIT (2017)

Album: Sunrise

A conventional K-ROCK music video on a dark stage, with a performance from the band along with night time city lights. The director also took inspiration from 90's music scene with the outfits, sunglasses, and camera work.
